The Dental Service Will Be Arriving Shortly. . .

"The dental service will be arriving shortly...if you have an appointment scheduled on the mobile dental unit visiting campus today, please plan to arrive on time." That was the loudspeaker announcement they made at my daughter's community college the day my dental office made our first visit to a college campus. My daughter repeated this announcement back verbatim because apparently she thought it was embarrassing; I thought it was great!

A Unique Approach

As a dentist who practiced in a professional office for over 15 years, I certainly never thought I would be running a mobile unit at some point in my life. But after my children were all off to college, I had more time freed up and I wanted to do something to give back to the community. I remembered a good friend of mine, a physician at a local hospital, had spearheaded a successful campaign to promote women's health in the community by running a mobile mammogram unit.

The mobile concept is a unique approach because it brings necessary medical or dental services to those who can't readily access them, make time for them or sometimes afford them. I decided that running a mobile dental unit would be the perfect way for me to give back to the community.

Meet and Greet

I've only been running the mobile dental unit for a few weeks now, but I have to say that it's been the experience of a lifetime. Of course, I met all sorts of patients in my office but I've met so many interesting people "out on the road." The service and care I can provide in the mobile unit is comprehensive and professional. The units are open and spacious, which allows patients to feel comfortable and relaxed when they come in for treatment. Plus, the unit is designed exactly how I prefer a dental room to be setup so I am able to work with all the tools I need.
